Maestro Daniel Hege sat down with Bill Snyder of WSKG's Arts in Depth to talk about the exciting, family-friendly programming in the Philharmonic's final classical concert this season, Roman Holiday.
Excerpts: “Pines of Rome . . . has such a triumphant sound to it that if people don't know the piece, they will want to know it more in depth after this performance.”
“Tchaikovsky's hotel [in Rome] was very close to the barracks and he awoke to the [military] bugle call every morning. He was probably quite annoyed by it, but . . . he was picking up the melodies and the flavors [of Italian folk music] that was out on the streets.”
