Concerts in Every Corner

This summer, you might be surprised to see musicians from the Binghamton Philharmonic performing in some unusual places.

With “Concerts in Every Corner,” the BPO will be placing soloist musicians in various places throughout the region as it fulfills its mission of “building community through the power of live music.”

Locations will include parks, school lunch distribution sites, and downtown locations, like the MetroCenter.

"Concerts in Every Corner" performance times and locations are unannounced “pop-ups,” taking place from now through the end of summer.

As part of its “Musical Gifts” program, the BPO will be offering concert ticket vouchers at the event!

This concert featured guest soloist Andrew Russo on the piano. Russo is known for the diversity of his interests and experiences, whether it be business, music, or politics. As a native of Syracuse N.Y., Russo is a graduate of The Julliard School and pursued post-graduate studies in Leipzig and Paris with Pianist/alternative pedagogue Frederic Chiu. On this concert he was the soloist for Brahms "Concerto for Piano, No.1" The concert also features works by composers Mozart and Stravinsky. This concert's performance of the Firebird was Stravinsky's second 1919 version. The sections used were Introduction, Dance of the Firebird, The Princesses, The infernal dance, The Lullaby, and Finale.

The purpose of this show was how it's involving "hometown heroes." These heros included Santino Deangelo (playwright, composer, lyricist), Uli Speth (Violin), Hakan Tayga-Hromek (Cello), John Lathwell (Oboe), Lynn Hileman (Bassoon), and Bruce Borton (director)

The Madrigal Choir of Binghamton also joined the Philharmonic to sing Schubert's Mass in G. There was also be a piece by Dmitri Shostakovich, a Soviet Composer, titled "chamber symphony op 110a." The show ended with Haydn Symphonia concert tongue, which features four soloists as concerto players that are all apart of the Philharmonic orchestra.

FIVE SAX is a modern-style saxophone quintet featuring five musicians from around the world.

The individual members of FIVE SAX are all established solo musicians, who represent a significant international presence and hold many prizes from important national and international competitions. The members converged in Vienna from around the world, united by a modern conception of virtuosity and the constant urge to push the limits of performance. The five musicians from Poland, Italy, Belgium, the USA and Chile each brings his own unique and vibrant personaity to the group. The ensemble's imaginative programming mirrors the diversity of its members; rooted in classical music, while venturing into American jazz, south-American Latin styles and European folk music.

The ensemble began in an unusual way: performing street theater in the center of Vienna. Their first year performing together was an unforgettabe experience of running from the police, surviving freezing temperatures, and dealing with angry shopkeepers. The ensemble's past is echoed in their concerts by their use of theatrical elements, their strong connection with the audience, and their spontaneous approach to making music.

The Nutcracker

The Binghamton Philharmonic and the Rafael Grigorian Ballet come together in a new holiday tradition; a fully staged production of The Nutcracker! This production brought the magic of the holidays to life with Tchaikovsky’s unforgettable score that will delight the young and the young at heart. Productions were staged in both Binghamton and Elmira.


This production was choreographed and staged by Master Choreographer Rafael Grigorian and performed with the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra and Children’s Choir, conducted by Maestro Vlad Iftinca. Sarah Pautz was the principal dancer, and was joined on stage by Jayson Pescasio.

Our Town

The inhabitants of the American continents, regardless of the era or place, have always had a rich musical heritage. Two of the most prolific composers of the Americas are Aaron Copland (1900-1990) and George Gershwin (1898-1937). While Copland cultivated a more populist style, Gershwin explored classical forms and both are present on this concert's program. Pianist John Covelli is featured on this concert.

Sybarite5 is always on the lookout for new tunes and composers that speak with a unique and relevant voice. "Outliers" is a celebration of works written by their favorite composers mixed with music from the friends they've made traveling the world performing the music they love. Sybarite5 plays the music of its friends Andy Akiho, Shawn Conley, Jessica Meyer, Marc Mellits, Daniel Bernard Roumain, Eric Byers, Piotr Szewczyk, and Dan Visconti paired with the group's favorite works of Armenian folk music, Piazzolla, Elgar, and Radiohead.
